Good morning, good afternoon and good evening readers,
Today was our first day at the office. We were shown a presentation about Armenia and here are some of the facts that I learnt:
- Armenia was the first country in 301 AD to adopt Christianity as its formal religion.
- Cher is Armenian, as are System of a Down
- The Armenian Flag colours symbolise red (the blood shed in their history), blue (the sky) and orange (the sun).
My favourite fact is the one about Cher as I honest had no idea she was Armenian. Every day is a school day. We also met with some of the other young volunteers. They are very giggly and excitable at meeting English people. As you all know, I am not giggly and excitable. It is a surreal experience being liked because you are English, but I’ll go with it. Afterwards we headed home via the classic bus journey.
After making a shopping list at home, we headed down to the local supermarket. So over here, if you are carrying a plastic bag you must lock it in a cupboard before entering the shop. Amy and I were not aware of this until a shop assistant took our bags and locked them away. Unsurprisingly and rightly so, not one soul spoke English. Navigating our way through vegetables, fruits and spices was not far from an episode of Supermarket Sweep. Grab what you can and hope it works out. Next time you’re at the checkout and you hear the beep, think of all the fun you could be having on.. Supermarket Sweep!
In the evening Amy and I cooked dinner and listened to music borrowing the Wi-Fi from our neighbours. I am sure they won’t mind. I feel very at peace and at home right now in a country that isn’t my own. I look forward to finding someone one day to cook and listen to music with over and over again, until the end of our time.
In kindness,
C x
